The Solent LEP are working with over 60 secondary schools from across the area and partnering each of these with a volunteer Enterprise Adviser to deliver the Enterprise Adviser Network on behalf of The Careers and Enterprise Company in the Solent area.
The Careers & Enterprise Company is an employer-led organisation set up to inspire and prepare young people for the fast-changing world of work. Its role is to take an umbrella view of the landscape of careers and enterprise, supporting programmes that work, filling gaps in provision and ensuring coverage across the country.
Enterprise Advisers are being recruited from local businesses and organisations and will be working at a strategic level alongside the schools' senior management teams. The aim of these partnerships is to evaluate the existing careers and enterprise work taking place in the schools and develop activity plans to ensure that the best local provision can be accessed, helping to better prepare their students for the world of work.
The Solent LEP have contracted a team of Enterprise Coordinators to -
• Recruit schools and business volunteers to expand the Enterprise Adviser Network in the Solent area.
• Help schools and colleges to improve their careers and enterprise activities and to engage with the world of work.
• Make it easier for employers and the self-employed to engage with schools and colleges.
• Focus everyone’s efforts on programmes and activities that are most effective in motivating young people, supporting independent choice, and supporting positive outcomes for young people.
The Enterprise Advisers we are working with have said:
Having my old school take me on as an EA has gone very well, they are open to my ideas and advice as to what businesses need today
I became an Enterprise Adviser because I want to share my knowledge and experience and give something back. I would like children to have options and alternatives to reach their aims and aspirations.
