Initiative to help students missing out on work experience launched

19 January 2021

Our Careers Hub have partnered with Speakers for Schools to host a free Introduction to Virtual Work Experience - Building the Talent Pipeline webinar on 21 January, where it will launch its new Virtual Work Experience Pilot.

Many young people in the Solent region are missing out on vital work experience as a result of the pandemic, which is why we are doing all we can to help employers learn more about the benefits of Virtual Work Experience and how they can get involved in the Solent.

The webinar will take place on Thursday 21 January 2021, 08:30 - 10:00. Employers will learn about the support available to them in producing a Virtual Work Experience programme to help young people in the Solent to get career ready. Organisations will also have the chance to engage with a national network of employers working to support young people develop skills for the future.

Rachael Randall our Board member and Chair of the Skills Advisory Panel said, “Supporting young people to develop skills for the future is a key aim of the Solent LEP and we’re pleased to be working Speakers for Schools to deliver this webinar to employers in the region. We hope that organisations will grab the opportunity to inspire their future workforce whilst also gaining an extra helping hand during this busy time.”

Some of the local businesses which have already joined the Virtual Work Experience Programme include Aerial View, ABP, Kier Construction, Maritime Digital Hub, MGPS Commercial Ltd, Morgan Sindall Construction & Infrastructure, and Portsmouth and Southampton City Councils.

Employers that are interested in the programme can register here for the free Introduction to Virtual Work Experience webinar.
