Fareham and Gosport Multi Year Programme

 

 

The need to improve access to the Fareham and Gosport peninsula is identified as a key priority for the Solent LEP as outlined in our Strategic Economic Plan.

The Fareham and Gosport multi-year programme will help remove barriers to economic growth and respond to the specific connectivity challenges common to most coastal communities The projects funded under this significant programme provide a package of highway infrastructure improvements to remove transport barriers and improve strategic connections to Fareham and Gosport and aims to encourage new investment (for example at the Solent Enterprise Zone) to provide new opportunities for local residents. The programme will also support the delivery of Solent LEP's strategic growth sites including the Enterprise Zone at Daedalus and the Welborne Development.

This investment will create 3000 new jobs in the period to 2021, unlock significant housing and enable 248,000 sq. m of floor space for businesses.

 

St Margarets and Peel Common Roundabout 

The Solent LEP has invested £4.5m for improvements to roundabouts in Fareham and Gosport. Improvements have been made to St Margaret’s and its junction on the A27 which experiences peak time congestion. The improvements will assist with east-west connectivity with the M27 and the strategic road network. Improvements have also been made to Peel Common Roundabout as part of this investment by upgrading the roundabout to a signal controlled roundabout, providing additional lane capacity, enhancing pedestrian / cyclist provision and improving accessibility to the Solent Enterprise Zone.

Gudge Heath Lane and Station Roundabout 

The Solent LEP has invested £4.958m to increase the capacity at the congested junction and approaches to Fareham Railway Station. The project has included road improvements and provision of additional lanes, cycleways and re-configuring the roundabout with multi modal transport improvements.

A27 Dualling - St Margarets Roundabout to Titchfield Gyratory and St Margarets Roundabout to Segensworth Roundabout 

The Solent LEP has invested £7.325m to deliver two sections of carriageway widening of the A27.  This will improve traffic flow and congestion, provide improved pedestrian and cycleway facilities and additional bus stop facilities.

Newgate Lane South 

The Solent LEP are investing £9m to deliver a new carriageway alignment for the B3385 Newgate Lane South connecting Peel Common Roundabout and Tanners Lane. This project will help improve access from the Gosport Peninsula and the Solent Enterprise Zone to the M27 Junction 11. 

The existing Newgate Lane carriageway alignment will be retained as a service road for residential properties at Peel Common and for the provision of a cycle route.  The scheme accommodates the improvements made to the Peel Common Roundabout improvements also funded by the Solent Growth Deal.

Welborne Development Including M27 Junction 10 

The Solent LEP are investing £29m to provide the necessary improvements to public infrastructure to support the Welborne Development and improve connectivity to the Fareham and Gosport Peninsula.  

Enabling Flagship sites is a priority to the Solent LEP as set out in the Strategic Economic Plan. The investment made will help delivery housing and commercial floorspace to ensure significant investment and growth in the area. 

The Improvements to support this development will include utility upgrading, provision and upgrading of highways infrastructure and also upgrading of Junction 10 of the M27 to an all moves junction.
