The Solent Local Enterprise Partnership is working in collaboration with the Southampton 2025 UK City of Culture bid team. We brought together creative businesses working across the Solent at a virtual event to champion the sector in March 2022.

Championing the Solent's Creative Industries aims to highlight the opportunity for growth across the creative industries in the region, explore accessibility into creative careers and examine how to foster a business environment in which the sector can thrive.

The event included presentations from three key speakers:

Caroline Norbury MBE Chief Executive, Creative UK Portfolio - Caroline Norbury, MBE is the founding Chief Executive of Creative UK and dedicated to championing the creative industries.   Creative UK invests in and supports creative ideas, talent and businesses, harnessing the power of the creative sector to build a fairer, more prosperous world. Creative UK uses its extensive membership and networks in the creative industries to advocate for change, building the right environment for the future of the sector.

Claire Whitaker OBE Bid Director, Southampton UK City of Culture 2025 bid Portfolio - Claire has been appointed to lead Southampton’s bid to become UK City of Culture 2025, working with across Southampton’s communities, cultural organisations, businesses and academic partners locally and in the wider Solent region. Claire is committed to supporting the development of creative industries and is passionate about enabling diverse audiences to experience music, arts and culture. Her extensive experience has helped Claire make her work an important part of the UK’s cultural sector.

Anne-Marie Mountifield Chief Executive, Solent Local Enterprise Partnership Portfolio - Anne-Marie Mountifield has been the Chief Executive and Board Director at the Solent Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) since 2012. The Solent LEP is a partnership between business, education and local authorities, working together in determining economic priorities in the region to secure a more prosperous and sustainable future for the Solent area. Anne-Marie is also the Chair of Maritime UK Solent and a Board Member on the National Council of Maritime UK.

UK City of Culture is a designation given to a city in the United Kingdom for a period of one year. Bidding to be UK City of Culture brings tangible economic, cultural and social benefits leading up to, during and beyond the year that the city holds the status. The competition is administered by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport and has a panel of independent judges. The delivery of the bid will be led by the Southampton 2025 Trust working with partners and stakeholders from across Southampton and the wider region.
