BAE Spearfish torpedo upgrade creates 40 jobs and secures 100 more for the Solent

15 December 2014

This week saw brilliant news for the Solent's defence sector as Secretary of State, Michael Fallon, announced an upgrade to the Spearfish torpedo on his visit to the BAE UK Centre of Excellence for Torpedoes.

The Spearfish is the UK Royal Navy's front line anti-submarine and anti-surface torpedo; the new upgrade will provide the Solent with world class underwater military capability.

In addition, the programme will secure 100 jobs and create 40 new jobs for engineers that will be recruited to work on the upgrade.

The upgrade will further develop the capability of the City of Portsmouth and only continues to demonstrate why the Solent is the global centre of excellence for the defence sector and the home of the latest developments in technology in supporting a world class cluster here in the Solent.
