Green and clean maritime top of the agenda at regional sector event

05 April 2023

Maritime UK Solent (MUK Solent) the regional sector-based cluster and employer representative body is holding its next network meeting on 18 April as part of the National Oceanography Centre (NOC) Ocean Business 2023 exhibition and training forum.

The session will include a fascinating group of three speakers who will explore a sustainable and responsible circular economy approach to business, the development of Net Zero Oceanographic Capability (NZOC) as well as looking at the green skills requirements for the maritime sector.

Chair of MUK Solent, Anne-Marie Mountifield said: “This is an exciting event for anybody interested in the future of ocean technology and wanting to find out more about green maritime skills.

“We're bringing together maritime businesses to network and ocean science experts will be on hand to share knowledge and insights on evolving technology in the industry.

"Maritime UK Solent is committed to championing, leading and growing the region's maritime sector, and this is an excellent opportunity for maritime organisations in the Solent to connect, develop, and promote their businesses.”

Teams from MUK Solent, the Solent Local Enterprise Partnership's (LEP) Careers Hub, and the newly formed Institute of Technology, are taking part in the NOC’s Ocean Business 2023 exhibition and training forum taking place between 18-20 April. The conversation for the region will focus on how green maritime skills are becoming more essential in the development of future ocean technology, and how to reach the Solent's communities so that they are aware of these exciting new opportunities.

Don’t miss the opportunity to find out more about the vast array of ocean careers and listen to future skills talks at the event being held in Southampton.

Stuart Baker, MUK Solent Managing Director is attending to speak about the future skills for the maritime sector; and Lorna Wagner, MUK Solent Programme Manager, will give a talk about how to find your way into a rewarding career in maritime. Together these partners with the National Oceanography Centre, aim to bring the maritime sector closer to education, to inspire the future workforce to take up future green roles in the marine industry.

This Ocean Business event is a global meeting place to connect with maritime science professionals, to learn about the latest surveying innovation and autonomous systems, and to share ideas to help define the future of ocean technology.

Mark Hamson, Innovation Centre Manager, National Oceanography Centre, said: "We are excited to co-host this Breakfast Meeting with Maritime UK Solent, providing a platform for some fascinating presentations looking at skills, clean maritime and Net Zero Ocean Capability. It is also a great opportunity to come and network with like-minded sector professionals and to visit Ocean Business 2023."
