Following the announcement of £170m of capital funding to support the creation of new Institutes of Technology (IoTs) in the Government's Building our Industrial Strategy Green Paper, published in January 2017, the Government have advised that they will be launching a call for proposals to access a share of the £170m capital fund to establish Institutes of Technology before the end of 2017.
IoT's are intended to deliver the higher-level technical skills that employers need. Employers will be at the heart of their leadership and governance, and in the design and delivery of curriculum. In particular, they will focus on technical skills (e.g. Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) at levels 4 and 5 but will extend to degree level and above (level 6+) to strengthen routes into higher levels of technical education, as well as directly into employment. IoT's should strengthen and grow provision to fill gaps in the market and should be collaborations between industry, HE and FE. We have been advised that the focus in round one will be on quality, not quantity.
Completed pro-formas should be submitted to the Institutes of Technology team by 31 October 2017.
