LEP conference that will focus on Brexit is creating a buzz among Solent business community

04 March 2019

Have you signed up for our free Annual Conference event ‘Countdown to Brexit’? There are still a few places left to hear from experts on Brexit, including Simon Jack business editor at the BBC on Tuesday 12 March. The event is to be held at the Hilton Ageas and sees people from all types of industries getting together to set the vision for the Solent in 2050.

Our annual conference to discuss the future vision for the Solent’s economy has been embraced by the region’s business community, with around 250 delegates pledging to attend and the event attracting backing from big-name organisations.

Our event, called ‘Countdown to Brexit – Solent LEP Annual Conference 2019’ takes place next week, on Tuesday 12 March. The event, to be held at the Hilton Ageas, will see Solent business leaders meet to discuss future economic opportunities as the UK’s withdrawal from the EU draws closer.

The UK’s largest housebuilder, Barratt Homes, cyber security firm Beyond Encryption, law firm Irwin Mitchell, PR agency Lee Peck Media have been named as sponsors of the event.

Paul Holland, CEO of Beyond Encryption, said: “Collaboration is key, particularly in times of uncertainty, and we’re thrilled that the Solent LEP is bringing businesses together to discuss both the challenges and opportunities ahead. We’re looking forward to giving our insight into how cyber security will change in coming years and hope sharing our knowledge will help businesses in the Solent put themselves in pole position for the post-Brexit opportunities on the horizon.”

Jon Green, managing director of Barratt Homes in the region, added: “As a significant local employer and contributor to the local economy we’re thrilled to be a part of the Solent LEP’s Annual Conference. Our developments in the region brought around £45million to local communities last year; proof of the importance of housebuilding to regional economies.”

Hannah Clipston, from Irwin Mitchell, added: “Irwin Mitchell continues to support and advise our clients with their Brexit preparation. We are delighted to support the Solent LEP Annual Conference where we look forward to contributing to the discussion on how the Solent region is dealing with the countdown to Brexit and putting in place its plans for long term growth.”

Business South, which promotes and champions the south central economy, has also expressed its support for the event.
John Mitchell, Group CEO, said: “Business South is pleased to be supporting Solent LEP’s Annual Conference. The challenges that Brexit brings will likely require businesses to be more collaborative and resilient than ever before. There will also be opportunities during this transitionary period and the Solent region as a whole needs to be in a position to act with confidence and agility to capitalise on them. We are working with our Champions and Partners to ensure the region continues to thrive and events like this are critical to ensure we are prepared and engaged in a post-Brexit era.”

‘Countdown to Brexit – Solent LEP Annual Conference 2019’ will be hosted by BBC business editor Simon Jack. He will give his unique insight into reporting on Brexit and chair a question time-style panel where delegates can pose their questions to the day’s speakers.

Among those set to talk at the event alongside Simon Jack are:
• Aart Hille Ris Lambers, UK Commercial Director at DP World Southampton, the UK's most productive container terminal
• Hannah Clipston, Partner at law firm Irwin Mitchell
• Leigh Atkinson, Local Director at Metro Bank
