In celebration of National Maritime UK Week (10-16 October), a programme of events is scheduled in the Solent's regional world-class maritime sector.
The bi-annual event aims to shine a spotlight on developments in the maritime sector celebrating the technology, innovation and teams responsible for 95% of the UK’s global trade. During the week a number of events will be taking place to showcase the industry and the range of opportunities available.
The Solent region is intrinsically linked with the sea and is one of the most significant and historic in the world supporting nearly 200,000 jobs.
Anne-Marie Mountifield, Chair of Maritime UK Solent and Maritime UK Board member said: “The Solent region is the beating heart of the world’s marine and maritime sector. During national Maritime UK Week, there are a number of events here in the Solent which will show first-hand the critical role this important industry plays for both our region, for the national economy, and on the international stage."
Maritime UK Solent has strong ties with the umbrella organisation of Maritime UK and is the region’s voice for its world-class maritime sector.
A highlight of the week will include the region’s inaugural Maritime UK Solent Awards, showcasing and celebrating the very best the region has to offer at a ceremony held on Friday 14 October at the Leonardo Royal Grand Harbour Hotel in Southampton.
On Saturday 15 September, Portsmouth International Port is hosting an open day for members of the public and UKSA is offering a half-day open day covering all programmes offered to inspire and support children and young people to broaden their horizons through inspirational water-based adventures, education and training for careers at sea.
