Shaping the future of the marine and maritime industry

11 April 2016

The search is on for someone to lead a group that aims to boost growth in the Solent’s marine and maritime sector.

The Solent Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) has opened applications for the role of Chairperson of the Solent Marine and Maritime Steering Group (SMMSG).

The group, launched by the Solent LEP in April 2014, has been working to enable transformational growth of the Marine and Maritime sector in the Solent. In the two years since its establishment, the sector has seen a number of major achievements, including the opening of the new Land Rover BAR Headquarters in Portsmouth.

Now it is inviting business leaders from the Solent’s marine and maritime sector to apply to lead the group. Candidates should be at CEO, managing director or director level, with extensive knowledge and experience of the sector in the region.

The appointed candidate will be expected to chair the SMMSG meetings, while steering the collaborative delivery of key transformational initiatives. Representing the SMMSG in other forums, the Chairperson will act as an ambassador for the Solent and be an active leader for the marine and maritime sector's development in the region.

Brian Johnson, Solent LEP Director and Former Chair of the Solent Marine and Maritime Steering Group, said:

This is a fantastic opportunity to head up a strategic steering group of professionals in a world leading region for the industry. The group has already worked hard to take forward the steps that should be taken to secure the future of the marine and maritime industries across the Solent but there is still great scope to build on the group's successes with further initiatives to further develop the marine and maritime sector and the Solent's economic future.
