The Solent Local Enterprise Partnership is inviting employers from the region’s construction industry to come together and discuss the challenges and opportunities for the sector in relation to training, skills and apprenticeships.
Rachael Randall, Chair of the Solent LEP Skills Advisory Panel, said: “Following the success of our first two Solent Construction Skills Working Group events, we’re hosting another this March with a focus on apprenticeships. We’ll be looking at the key areas where smaller, local building firms, and related businesses like plastering, joinery etc., can work with regional educators and trainers to collaborate in shaping the region’s construction industry through training and skills.
“We’d especially like to hear from small to medium-sized firms specialising in different trades within the construction industry. If you feel you could share insight into the skills and training challenges that smaller building firms and associated businesses face, please get in touch.”
The Solent Construction Skills Working Group meets each quarter at a different college in the Solent, with this event being held at St Vincent College, Gosport, 7.30 - 9.30am on Wednesday 30 March 2022. Hosting the session is Angela Berry, CEO of the Lighthouse Learning Trust.
This network meeting will focus on apprenticeships and how these can help meet the skills challenges the industry faces, specifically:
● How employers can get the most out of apprenticeship opportunities from being more involved with the recruiting process
● How employers can work better with training providers and colleges during the apprenticeship
● How to maximise the employment of apprentices on completion, as well as referral possibilities and support available to help those who need to find alternative employment.
Parking is available on site and breakfast will be provided.
